About Bidyadanga
With a population
of around 800, Bidyadanga is the largest single Aboriginal community
in Western Australia. There are complex health care needs associated
with chronic disease, acute infectious morbidity and social problems.
There
are high prevalences of diabetes, heart disease and renal disease.
Health staff comprises of three senior health positions (Aboriginal
Health Workers and Registered Nurses) who share the on-call roster, supported
by two AHW's.
Reception, cleaning,
gardening, driving and maintenance are all community CDEP functions.
A doctor from BRAMS provides a fly-in clinic one day per week. In spite
of its population and health status profile, the capacity and funding
of health care services at Bidyadanga are completely inadequate to
meet needs.
KAMSC continues to
support and release staff for upskilling and in-service which is critical
in maintaining the workforce.
Health Committee
The
Bidyadanga Health Committee is an important link between the community,
KAMSC and clinical staff. Regular meetings of the Health Committee
have been valuable in communicating with the clinic staff as well as
an opportunity to problem solve issues arising.
